Once there was a big factory here. During the "idle hands are the devil's workshop" Communist years, thousands of people worked there. They produced millions of ball bearings....alas, way more ball bearings than anyone could ever use. After the 1989 revolution, the factory closed & those thousands of people left Barlad. One of our in-country program hosts for Global Volunteers, Dan, once worked there doing weights & measures. Now he & his wife share the job of integrating rotating groups of volunteers into the local community to help care for children.
